Pink, Gold, and Oh So Pretty

Keeping with the pink theme for Breast Cancer Awareness month, here is one of my favorite pink nurseries.  Before having my daughter, I was definitely not into pink.  I mean, obviously it was my favorite color when I was a little girl, but I grew to almost dispise it as I got older.  Now, I like pink again!

This pretty pink nursery was designed by Little Crown Interiors.  I just love the hit of gold!

Spotted: Nurseryworks Empire Rocker

Have you ever seen any of the nursery inspiration boards Joni Lay designs on her blog Lay Baby Lay?  If you haven’t, Merry Christmas 3 months early!  She puts together the most creative nursery designs with such original themes and unique color combinations, I die!

Joni Lay recently designed a nursery for a toddler and baby shared room for Better Homes & Gardens, and I spotted our number one selling rocker, the Nurseryworks Empire Rocker.  It is so chic, comfortable, and a far cry in terms of style from the standard gliders and rockers we’re used to seeing out there.

For the complete list of sources, please visit http://www.bhg.com/blogs/better-homes-and-gardens-style-blog/2012/09/12/so-happy-together-a-shared-room/.

This particular theme is for a toddler girl and baby boy, I just love the color combination for both genders, and the mix of vintage and contemporary.

The Nurseryworks Empire Rocker comes in 3 colors, and your choice of light or dark wood legs.

Ecru and Dark Ash Legs
Mocha with Dark Ash Legs
Slate and Light Ash Legs

Go here to see all of our rockers and gliders.

Summer is officially over!

Summer is officially over, and this is the first year I have been anticipating Fall for WEEKS!  I always thought women complained Summer was a horrible time to be pregnant meant being in your 3rd trimester with all the weight gain makes it hot and uncomfortable.  OH NO, apparently you can be in your 2nd trimester with only 10 extra pounds on you and feel completely miserable in 96 degree weather!!!  It has been incredibly hot here in Southern Cali the last few weeks, most days in the 90+, so I have been dreaming of this…

Being pregnant for Fall means missing out on some fashion trends like peplums, waist ties, and tuxedo jackets and vests.  I will survive with skinny jeans, flats, fur, and a dash of leopard here and there!

I do not like spending a lot of money on maternity clothes.  In fact, I don’t usually buy any maternity tops or dresses at all, and spending an arm and a leg on maternity pants kills me.  I just bought an amazing pair of black skinny cords by Secret Fit Belly from A Pea and a Pod for $85 compared to $180-$210.  They look way better on than the model who is wearing them, I promise!

Brushing Your Toddler’s Teeth

We are FINALLY all settled in the new house and I’m afraid I’ve become an agoraphobic!  We have been out of our house for over 9 months after a fire destroyed our home, and now that our house is rebuilt and we are back in, I don’t want to leave to go anywhere.  That coupled with the fact that it has been in the 90′s here in Southern California and I’m pregnant definitely doesn’t help.  There is still some minor construction going on like built-ins, so once it is all finished, I promise to post some photos.

So, my new tactic to get my little Buju to let me brush her teeth has worked every time that I thought I would share it with you.  I thought about it today since I had a dream last night that I could see Buju had two tiny little cavities in her teeth and woke up in a panic.  I have had a few tactics in the past, but this works the best!  Doesn’t it seem like once you’ve tackled one challenge another one presents itself?  Or it doesn’t work anymore and you have to come up with a new strategy?

I ALWAYS let her brush her teeth first.  We use Toms all natural Silly Strawberry toothpaste (it’s fluoride free) and her favorite stool.  Since we’re at the stage where she likes to mirror everything we do, we brush our teeth together.  Buju gets to have her own faucet, put her toothbrush under the water to get it wet, I put the toothpaste on for her, and then she gets to put it under the water one more time to make sure it is nice and wet. After we are both finished brushing, and she pretends to spit out the toothpaste like I did, I put a tiny bit more toothpaste on her toothbrush and tell her it’s time to see how good she did.  I tell her “Wow, you did so good over here, it’s so clean!  And wow, really good here too.”  While I’m showering her with positivity, I am brushing her teeth at the same time.  She loves it because Mommy is excited and she is proud she did such a good job, and I get to brush her teeth!

I hope this helps anyone out there who battles their toddler to brush their teeth.

Black Painted Bathroom?

We’re all moved into our new house and our master bathroom feels way too white!  When we were building our house I used stained wood, black and white as the foundation for all rooms in the house.  I did this so I could use accessories for pop of color and easily change the color by switching out a few inexpensive decor items as this is a serious issue I have.  SERIOUS!  I changed Buju’s nursery 2 times before she was a year old!

So, I gotta ask, what do you think about a bathroom painted black?  When I mentioned this to my husband he gave me the weirdest look and asked if I was turning goth on him!

I love the richness of a high gloss black paint in a bathroom, especially when accompanied with white subway or white carrara marble.  Add a pop of color like the yellow chair or orange towels and a mint green garden stool, and you have my dream bathroom!

Ya, I’m thinking high gloss black!

What to do with all the baby blankets???

When you’re having a baby you receive many baby blankets as gifts.  They’re cute, soft, and oh so snuggly, but you can’t drape thirty blankets over a sleeping baby!  Here are 5 baby blanket ideas to help you get the most mileage out of all those baby blankets.

1. Burp Cloth

Burp cloths aren’t always handy, but receiving blankets are. Drape one over your shoulder and burp baby worry-free. They’re also soft enough to wipe baby’s face afterwards.

2. Swaddling

Swaddling offers numerous health benefits, including calming newborn heartbeats and improving early sleep issues. It’s popular among a variety of cultures because it really works! The best swaddling blankets are relatively large, light, and breathable.

3. Stroller Sunshade

Many parents use receiving blankets to protect their babies from hot sun or wind in strollers and carriers. Do check on the baby regularly!

4. Car Seat Shield

It gets hot inside parked cars in the summer, and your baby’s car seat heats up accordingly. Those metal buckles can really get hot. Here’s a preventative receiving blanket tip—when you leave the car, drape a receiving blanket over the car seat. It’ll stay much cooler and the metal won’t get hot in the sun.

5. Tummy Time

Since it’s best that babies sleep on their backs, they don’t get enough time strengthening their arms and chests by pushing up. Doctors recommend starting tummy time as early as birth, to give babies a chance to get strong. Plop your baby down on a clean blanket on the floor and get started!

White Crib Bedding = A MUST!

Crib bedding with designs or prints can be stimulating to your little one. I went through a couple beautifully printed sheets with my daughter when she was a newborn before I realized she was enthralled with the design during a time in which I wanted her soothed and sleeping. Our white organic bamboo bedding collection by Little Bamboo is hands down the most comfortable bedding for your baby. Hard to stay away from all those printed bedding collections? All you have to do is place some decorative pillows in the crib when your baby isn’t in there of course, and viola!

Here are some of my favorite gender neutral nurseries with white crib bedding that can grow with your family and suit a boy or a girl.  Adding a few pops of color with accessories like a coral decorative pillow and wall print can easily change your nursery to tailor to a girl or boy.

Now for the best organic white crib bedding out there.  The Little Bamboo Collection is AHmazing!  The fitted crib sheet and blanket are oh-so-soft and cuddly.

  • Soft silk-like touch for increased comfort
  • 60% more water absorbent than cotton
  • Draws moisture away from baby
  • Increased comfort and naturally antibacterial for a healthier sleep
  • Bamboo is a renewable resource
  • Pesticide free needing little to no water to grow
  • 2° warmer in winter / cooler in summer for constant comfort
  • Adapts to baby’s body temperature
  • More breathable than cotton and 30% less susceptible to odors
